DAEGA SOUND

BIO

Daega Sound is a Canadian electronic music and DJ duo formed by brothers Ben and Josh Searles. Since emerging from the West Coast in 2008, they’ve carved out an international reputation for their deep, heavy, and meticulously crafted dubstep — a sound rooted in low-end pressure and sonic integrity.

Known for their forward-thinking approach, Daega Sound has released music on some of dubstep’s most respected labels, including Black Box, Hatched Music, Deep Heads, and LoDubs, which featured a standout remix of their track “Second Strike” by UK dubstep pioneer Kromestar. Their own imprint, Fathom Recordings, debuted with the immersive EP Zero, setting the tone for a series of boundary-pushing releases to come.

With support from influential tastemakers like Mary Anne Hobbs, Youngsta, and Pinch, Daega Sound’s music has received airplay on BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM, SubFM, and Kiss FM, and has echoed through sound systems at clubs and festivals across the globe.

Their live performances have evolved through various formats—from turntables and laptops to MIDI gear and iPads—but their current setup of four decks and two mixers allows for an expressive, high-energy, and deeply layered experience. This technical versatility is a hallmark of their live sets, which have taken them across Canada, the UK, and the US, with appearances at major festivals like Shambhala, Wicked Woods, MUTEK, and Bass Coast.

As long-standing members of Vancouver’s Lighta! Sound collective, Daega Sound remains a vital force in the West Coast bass music scene, constantly evolving while staying true to the roots of sound system culture.

“Within this formative time period of the first wave of Dubstep those to the north of LoDubs land were also involved in spreading the sound, with one of the key bright lights being Daega Sound of Vancouver BC... known far and wide for their live PAs and blistering exclusives...”
